The visa charges change from time to time. Effective from 1st July 2018, there will be an increase in Australian Visa Application Charges, as announced by The Department of Home Affairs. So be ensure to pay the correct charge when submitting your visa application from 1st July onwards. Any wrong payment can slow down the time of your application processing. Please consult with your immigration consultant in case you’re unsure about your visa application charge payment.
Department of Immigration Visa application fees is set to increase for a number of visas lodged on or after 1 July.
For many visa types, the visa application fees have been increased in line with CPI. Changes for some common visa types are below:
Increase in Australian Visa Application Charges
Applicants for contributory parent visas will be glad to hear that the increase to the application fee is only 3% from 1 July with no increase to the second instalment (currently up to $43,600).
The visa charges depend on the date Australia receives your application. If there is a change in between your application lodge date and the date Australia receives your application, then you have to pay the new application charge.
An additional fee will be charged by the Department of Home Affairs when you pay your Australian visa application charge through credit card or other online payment means. And there is no other way left to pay the government fee except by debit/credit card and other online services.
The Department of Home Affairs will charge a surcharge fee when you pay for your visa application, nomination, or sponsorship fees by a credit card, or through other online services. Here is the notice from the Department of Home Affairs stating the surcharge fees structure of the government charges for the use of credit cards and other online payment pathways.
Visa and Master Card* – 0.98%
American Express and JCB – 1.4%
Diners Club International – 1.99%
China Union Pay – 1.90%
PayPal – 1.00%
Note – * The surcharge fee may increase. The surcharge is also applied to the Debit MasterCard and Debit Visa cards when payment for the Australian visa is done online.
