Western Australia Offers a Pathway to Skilled Migration to Talented International Students

Mark McGowan, the current Premier of Western Australia announced on 16th August 2018 that Western Australia is going to introduce soon the new Occupation List for the graduates. This new Occupation list will offer a pathway to skilled migration to highly skilled international students.

The high achieving graduates who are attending Western Australia’s universities currently will be offered a pathway to skilled migration. That’s the way to attract high-skilled international students to Western Australia.

Attracting brightest international students will not only boost Australia’s economy but will also create jobs for Australians.

Western Australia will announce an additional Graduate Skilled Migration List to attract global talent with advanced skills, experience, and qualifications to help Western Australia grow and share the international education market.

The high achieving graduates will be offered by Honours, Masters, PhD, and other high degree graduates – said McGowan Government.

Skilled Migration under the State Nominated Migration Program will be on top priority. It will be granted to the brightest and skilled international students graduating from the Western Australia Universities. These students will strengthen the workforce future of Western Australia. They are important to be considered for creating knowledge and building capacity for technological and scientific development.

This change will not affect the existing Skilled Migration Occupation List of the State Government as the policy of not including electricians, mechanics, and bricklayers occupations remain the same.

All related information like, how to apply, eligibility etc. will be provided on the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s Migration portal in a few months.

In order to increase the share of international education market of Western Australia, attracting talented and brightest students of international universities is the best and major step – said Mark McGowan. He also added – “we need to send a message to the world that we welcome international students and their families.”
